The crisis in education during Covid-19 has demonstrated the deep social inequality in South Africa, and the inability of the South African government to provide quality education for learners in public schools. The Government has ignored calls, demonstrations and petitions by teachers, parents and learners to close all schools till Covid-19 has been substantially reduced. Instead, the private education economy is booming and is thriving on the JSE, providing online and contact education to the country’s elites. In contrast, public schools are unable to physically accommodate even small numbers of learners, provide PPEs, text books and a decent curriculum. Join Khanya College at the Jozi Book Fair as we host a number of speakers who have written and actively engaged these challenges, including the need to radically transform education in SA.
