Born in colonial Cyprus, Ari Sitas is an acclaimed sociologist, dramatist, writer-poet and civic artist. This socialist thinker has been awarded in most of the fields he got involved. Awarded the Olive Schreiner Award in 1978 for his play, Randlord and Rotgut. Ari Sitas is currently University of Cape Town’s, Head of Department for Sociology. Most of his writing works are focussed on the liver of working people in South Africa, like Black Mamba Rising: South African Worker Poets in Struggle; a book that was contributed by other prolific names like Alfred Khumalo, and Nise Malange.
