Jozi Book Fair My Class Newsletter, Current IssueWere you there?
See you there!
The second edition of the Jozi Book Fair 2010 is now behind us. The hosting of this young book fair for the second time could not have been accomplished without your support and patronage. Jozi Book Fair 2010 built on the achievements of the 2009 edition, and took some important steps towards making this a book fair with a difference, a book fair for readers, writers and small publishers.
Jozi Book Fair attracted 60 small publishers, over 80 authors and panellists, and more than 1300 members of the public attended various events over the 3 days. Close to a hundred young ones attended the Children’s Programme, which saw not only games but book launches, readings and other activities. We walked away from Jozi Book Fair 2010 with both a critical and positive feedback from many exhibitors, writers and readers. These insights will not only feed into making Jozi Book Fair a better event, but they are signs of a growing and deepening relationship between Jozi Book Fair and its partners – readers, writers and small publishers. For Khanya College and the Jozi Book Fair team, the relationships built in the run-up to Jozi Book Fair 2010 go beyond preparing for a better event in 2011. The 11 months between now and the 3rd edition of Jozi Book Fair will be months of ongoing engagement for the Jozi Book Fair.
A roundtable with small publishers who came to the fair will be held soon to get more structured feedback and present a programme of activities that will build a strong small publishing movement, a vibrant children’s programme will be launched with various schools, and a programme of reading circles will be launched in partnership with various public libraries in Gauteng. Jozi Book Fair’s newsletter will continue to keep you informed with regular editions of My Class, which will come out on a monthly basis. As we thank you for a great event in 2010, we ask you to continue to walk with Jozi Book Fair as we build a culture of reading, writing and publishing.
The registration for Jozi Book Fair 2011 will open on the 1 March 2011.
